Infant Entrapment and Suffocation Prompts Stork Craft to Recall More Than 2.1 Million Drop-Side Cribs
In case you didn’t hear about it on Monday, November 23rd, numerous local and national media outlets announced a pending crib recall in the coming days that was going to be very large. There were no specifics on who and how many, but it did involve an entrapment issue. Speculation was rampant and, like the kids game of telephone, estimates went from 500,000 to 5 million to all drop side cribs ever made. For this reason Goore’s waited to hear what company, or companies, are affected by the recall, how many cribs are involved and what the course of action was to fix them. Goore’s went ahead and pulled all drop side cribs from our floor and from our outlet as a precautionary measure pending the official release or concrete information to work from.
It turns out that it is only one company, Stork Craft Manufacturing and it was not 5 million cribs. This does not in any way discount the importance and magnitude of this recall. As a side note, Goore’s has never sold Stork Craft cribs but is deeply concerned about this issue.

RADIAN SL™ TAKES CENTER STAGE AT ABC SHOW Sunshine Kids Unveils New Convertible Car Seat with Un-Paralleled Safety
SUMNER, WA – September 11, 2009 – Sunshine Kids, manufacturer and marketer of travel solutions for the children of today’s families, is proud to introduce at ABC Kids Expo 2009, its newest launch – the Radian SL™. Radian SL (which stands for SuperLATCH™) is the first seat that accommodates children rear-facing to 45 lbs and the first seat to use lower anchors / LATCH use beyond 48 lbs, all the way to 80 lbs. It is also the first car seat tested far above government standards to secure a child from birth up to the highest weight limits; 45 lbs. rear-facing and 80 lbs. forward-facing.
63% of unsafe child seat installations are caused by the seatbelt not properly securing the child seat. In 2002, vehicles and child seats began to incorporate the LATCH attachment system (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) as a way to simplify and improve the safety of child seat installations. But limitations of child seat design and hardware prevent LATCH installations with children over 48 lbs. As demand continues for higher-capacity seats (i.e. for children above 48 lbs), a growing number of child seats cannot be installed with LATCH, once again requiring the use of seatbelts.

Sometimes something happens that reminds us of how our work helps other people in ways we forget in our day to day responsibilities.
It’s a powerful story about the extraordinary courage of the Partenfeld family surrounding a horrific accident that occurred this past Memorial Day. The video serves as a great reminder of the importance of proper car seat installation as well.
